Practical Implications of Research on Intimate Partner Violence Experiences for the Mental Health Clinician

Abstract Purpose of review Individuals experiencing mental health difficulties are at heightened risk for past and recent intimate partner violence (IPV), including sexual, psychological, physical and/or stalking, from an partner. Yet, clinicians often report limited knowledge about IPV, especially best clinical practices identifying addressing IPV experiences in routine care. Recent findings This paper reviews literature on experiences, prevalence, linkages with problems, considerations vulnerable populations, evidence-based screening, assessment, intervention the context These rooted trauma-informed person-centered care principles emphasize safety empowerment. Summary We conclude by commenting common clinician challenges case conceptualization individuals IPV.
